Meet your Photographer!
I'm Gillian and I'm based in Croxdale, Durham, UK. I've always been a creative person, knitting, sewing, drawing and taking photographs since I was a child. I really started to take creative control of my photography as a teenager, when my Dad gave me his 35mm film SLR. I spent some years (and many rolls of slide film!) photographing landscapes, wildlife and exploring macro photography, but eventually discovered my passion in capturing beautiful, emotive portraits, sensitively showcasing the subject at their very best.
I launched Piccolo Photography in 2017, becoming a registered member of the Guild of Photographers during the same year. Since then I have received many awards for my images, and have been awarded lifelong membership of the Photographer's Bar.
"Becoming a member of the Photographer's Bar is a unique distinction awarded to those photographers who have successfully had images assessed by the Guild over the course of a year, and attained a score equating to an award for each entry made, thereby evidencing an exceptional level of professional skill and consistency - a distinction that is very difficult to achieve!"
In 2020 I successfully gained Qualified status with the Guild of Photographers.
"Qualified indicates professional competence to a level where the Guild is willing to recognise the photographer as an ambassador of the association."
But enough about me! You've come here to see beautiful photographs, so head over to the Gallery and have a browse. If you like what you see and you'd like to work with me, drop me a message. I'd love to hear from you!
